Hi all,

I've been away all day, and have come back to find lots of interesting
tidbits. I'm going to combine all of them here so I don't send out umpteen
emails back to the group.

Ray, does one of the Publisher versions have the pdf output capability built
into it? If so, which one?

Ron, I found the grouping feature, which helps a great deal but I'll
definitely look for the adjoining page display you mentioned. As far as I
can see so far adjoining pages is all that I would need to see at one time.

Glenda, I will check out your suggestion, however, if I go that way it will
likely mean LOTS of questions to the group. My Excel knowledge dates back
to the version shipped with Works 3.0, many many moons ago, and I've already
admitted my shameful lack of experience with Word. I almost enrolled in some
of the eclectic academy classes last month but was afraid I wouldn't have
the time right now to devote to studying.

Linda, that would be really great if it will let me pull something off to
the side like you describe. That would allow the manipulation I need.

Fran, thanks for the heads up on the resolution. This first catalog will be
done in b&w until we see if it is a worthwhile endeavor. But you mentioned
something interesting... taking the FILE and not the printed pages to the
printer. Hmmm, I wonder if that would be an option for me.

Michele, thank you for the example catalog file sent to me off list.

Thanks again everyone!
Pam

Pam..I haven't joined in this discussion cuz I've never used Publisher
98...I didn't start using Publisher until the 2000 version, so I'm not sure
what options you have in 98

But in Pub 2000, you can just drag objects off the page onto the gray area
around the page (this is called the Scratch area)...you can park as much
stuff out there as you want to....then you can move from page to page and
just drag it back onto the page where you want it.

Hi Anne,
Since this task is not my usual line of work, I don't know what type of
catalog you would call it so I'll describe it a little. It will display
craft supplies, and will probably end up being 100-150 pages long. Each
page will contain as many items on it as the page will comfortably hold.

It is my understanding that we are going to print out one copy and take this
copy to the printer who will compile it into a real book. Actually, the
reason I looked at Publisher is because it is the only software that I can
think of that I already have that might be able to do the job, but after
completing about 6 pages I'm ready to find something, anything, that will
make the job faster and less of a pain. One problem I've already
encountered with Publisher 98 is that I can't figure out how to move
something from one page to another, which is going to be a *must*,
especially further down the road. Maybe I'm just dreaming but I would like
to be able to lay several pages side by side and rearrange between them
until I get the right look on each page.

Word... hmmm. Is that a good option for a task like this? I must admit that
I've never used Word for much more than a gloryfied typewriter, though I
know it can do more, I have never explored its abilities. Oh, except for a
handful of times I used Word's draw tools to create some flow charts.

Any suggestions/advice welcome!!

Pam
