Another way to do this is to install the addin for Outlook 2002 which
adds the tab in Tools>Options which lets you control which types of
attachments you want to be able to view...it includes a checkbox at the
bottom where you can check to "Read all mail as plain text"

I don't use this however since I am one of them weirdos who actually
likes html mail (tho I can do without all the moving pictures and music,
I am a fan of nice fonts and colors....being the wysiwyg kinda gal that
I am ;-))

Like you, I despise anything other than plain text in email. Some of my
friends tend to like some of the features it provides but I can do
without the web bugs that are usually in these messages from newsletters
I'm subscribed to. And I have used the technique outlined in that tip
below. It does turn off HTML but it seems to still make a mess in the
message. Gets kinda ugly.<g>
