 Haslett, Michigan
 Alphonso Swain, age 56, had an incredible sense of humor. He was very skilled 
at
trivia as well. He felt very strong about making the most of your life. "He 
thought
laughter made the world a better place." His passion for helping others kept him
involved and participating in many boards and committees in many capacities. He 
built
a career in management within the social work industry. Alphonso served on the 
State
of Michigan Governors Commission and the Michigan Community Service Commission. 
He
was Chairman of the Board for CATA Local Advisory Committee. He enjoyed public 
speaking
on the topic of Diversity and Accessibility.
 He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hall Swain; brother, Peter Rixster; 
nephews,
James Reed, Joseph Lawshea and Charles Lawshea. He was preceded in death by his 
mother,
Ella May Rixster; sisters, Ruby Reed and Vina Lawshea.
 Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, at 10:00 AM at Gorlsine Runciman 
Funeral
Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing. The funeral service will be held 
following
visitation at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made 
to
National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Michigan Chapter, 21311 Civic Center Dr., 
Southfield,
MI 48076.
