The other thing is, with a vertical boiler, you will not get to the grate temperatures that other locos get to. Try a mild steel bar grate, I have one in my sweet-pea, it lasts a season and that's flogging it!!! Hi chaps I'm building my first boiler (vertical) and am looking for a cast iron fire grate to fit, after machining, up into a 3" diameter fire box. Any body know of a supplier of such items. I've tried people like Stuart Turner, Blackgates, Reeves etc in the UK but nothing appears in their catalouges. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Steve MODEL ENGINEERING DISCUSSION LIST.
