I think someone said that Blue Peter's wheels slipped and they spun equivalent to the rate they would have been going at if the loco was travelling at over 150mph. This may not seem much over the 126mph acheived by Mallard (which did suffer some big end damage) but don't forget that the rotational forces scale with speed squared - so the worst of the forces at 150mph will be almost 50% greater than at 126mph.
