Al, Pay no attention to that yahoo down in Oz. All you have to do is to place the knife blade on a piece of heavy metal (1/4" or thicker, this is to sort of moderate the heat.) and heat the metal until the proper colour shows on the polished blade. You prolly need almost a dark purple colour to get a good tough blade from carbon steel. The nearer straw colour you are, the harder but more brittle the blade will be.
