Hi Oscar. Welcome to the list. If you don't know about it, please check
out www.MoAccess.info. That web site has lots of info that will be of
use to you.
The mLAN card makes it possible to hook up the Motif to your computer
over a single Firewire cable. Over this one cable, you can control the
Motif through MIDI. This lets you use the Motif together with software
on the computer like Sonar or QWS for creating music. You can also
transfer digital audio between the computer and Motif, so that you can
record the Motif directly into programs like SOnar. This audio
capability also lets you use the Motif like an audio interface for the
computer. You can record the microphone input of the Motif into Sonar.
It is very complicated, but very exciting.

Hi to all, I am new to the list and I guess I would like to introduce
my-self. I have been a performing musician for 20 years now. I
recently started getting in to recording and now I have sonar with ct
and am getting an sx keyboard very soon. I would like to know if when I
get my Motif, I should also get some of the add-ons such as the Mland
card or any other components that you all may suggest. Is there a
resource to find out about the MLand capabilities on the sx8? In other
words, what can it do for us?

The ethernet port is only used for accessing files that are saved on a
computer. In order to use mLAN, you need to buy an add on card for the
Motif.

In a full DAW software package like Sonar, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc, you
can have tracks that are dedicated to MIDI sequence information, and you
also have other tracks that play audio that is synchronized to the MIDI
tracks.
So, in Sonar, for example, I can make a 16 track MIDI sequence for the
Motif, and also put a huge number of audio tracks along side those MIDI
tracks with vocals, live instruments, etc.
Actually, it can get a bit more complicated than that. With the mLAN
card, what I actually have in Sonar is quite a bit more. I have 16 MIDI
tracks to play instrument voices on the Motif. I have 8 stereo audio
tracks where the instrument sounds from the Motif are carried into
Sonar, so that I can mix them (apply eq, effects, and other processing
that goes beyond what is already built into the Motif). I use several
software synthesizers, and these are controlled from MIDI tracks, but
produce their sound on dedicated audio tracks. Finally, I have several
general purpose audio tracks. Some audio tracks are routed together into
a submix for recording background vocals, others are preconfigured for
special tasks like recording from the XS's vocoder. Besides just being
able to sequence in Sonar, you can use software synthesizers, record
audio, edit all of it, mix all of it, master all of it, and save a
version that is ready for burning on a CD or encoding to an MP3. QWS is
a powerful and snappy sequencer, but a sequencer is just the first step
along the way to a complete production.

I'm not sure how the dos are supposed ot help I have looked thouirgh
them thoughly. if you go into the note editor it say nothing pressing
tab get you close insert delte edit snap and memo you can get a list of
notes starting c3 and go up and down this ther is a field called start
which I think is in the edit window. The docxs say alt right arrow
hsoudl go to the next note but I can't find anyway to find out what it
is teh list just say
c3 c#3 etc. the docs say that ther is a status bar adn that notes a
represented by horizontal lines which isn't very helpful to a screen
reader I cna't get a list of the notes however I try. this doesn't
actually seem very accessible. don't know about sonare I have'nt tried
that yet.

The note and event editors are completely accessible, but you haven't
looked at the manual to see how they work. They don't work like you
probably expect. They aren't lists that can be navigated with the arrows
like in Cakewalk/Sonar. There are dedicated keys to move from note to
note, event to event, etc. Once you're on a note or event, there are
other hotkeys that are used to change the note, velocity, duration, etc.
There is a huge amount of F1 help in QWS. Press F1 in the event editor
and see what you get.
QWS can't record audio, but it is the most accessible MIDI sequencer
that has ever been on any computer.

can't figure out any way ot get roundit or workout whats going on has
