Smart Homes: Your Wish is Their Command
http://houseandhome.msn.com/Improve/SmartHomes0.aspx
How smart should your home be? That depends on your budget. Costs range from
a few thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars. The good news:
Average consumers are finding it more affordable to wire up their homes.
More homebuilders are offering "digital" homes. (They leave you with
icon-driven touch pads to operate your new system.) People with older homes
can now hire installers to set up their systems, too.

Here's a brief rundown on the biggest features in today's home automation.
Most wired-up homes rely on old-fashioned power lines to operate. Others use
radio frequency airwave technologies, phone lines, multimedia cabling, and
low-voltage wiring systems connected to a central processing unit (CPU), or
a combination thereof. Wireless technologies may someday power most, if not
all, smart homes.

http://www.vnunet.com/Download/1110946
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT
Create your own crosswords or solve the included ones with this fun
software.

Crossdown offers you the opportunity to create your own crosswords from
scratch, having complete control over how the grid is laid out, what the
clues are and, of course, what the answers are.
Obviously, if you design the crossword you won't want to solve it because
you'll know all the answers already!
This is why there is full support for printing your compiled crosswords, to
be used on newsletters etc.

There are even facilities to incorporate them as interactive elements on a
website, using a Java applet available from the Crossdown website.

Anti-Virus Program vs Online Scanning

Just some words on "Trojans" and antvirus program scans vs Online scans.

The writers/distributors of trojans do so so they can access the infected
system to exploit/abuse it in same form.
Trojans generally do not lock up and disable a system. This is of no
benefit to the trojan/exploiter.
Virus however is a different story!

To do an antivirus scan Be it program or Online you should be aware of how
you are set up. most antivirus programs are default to only scan Program
files. They tend to ignore other files and compressed files all together
until You tell them to do so.
Be sure to check your options to include ALL files and compressed files and
Save your settings when done so they are permanent!

As for doing an antivirus program scan And an Online scan it is advisable to
use different companies. Such as if you use Nortons for your program
antivirus scan using Nortons Online scan isn't going to tell you to much
different, they both know the same infections! However using say Nortons
as your program antivirus scanner and Trend Micro (Pc-Cillin) for an online
scan will truly give you two different opinions.

On the reinstalling windows portion. A rollback and/or reinstall using a
Backup copy from before a possible infection will remove the trojan, However
simply reinstalling windows from the CD over the copy currently installed
will not remove a possible infection.
You must keep in mind also that doing a rollback that was before a possible
infection is all well and good but you have to be careful of what you also
reinstall as other programs.
If you rollback to a good install of windows and reinstall the infected
xxxx.exe you will still be in the same boat you were in before you bailed
out and went back!

That the technology into today?s desktop computers is many hundreds of
times more powerful than the computer in the Apollo 11 Lunar Module that
landed on the moon?

That defragmenting organizes the data on your hard drive so that access to
your data is faster and more reliable?

That your hard drive requires defragmenting at least once a month?
The more often you defragment, the less time defragmentation will take.

That one of the units of mouse movement is called a ?Mickey??

That the number and types of beeps when starting your PC can alert you to a

Antivirus software is a good choice to scan your system for possible viruses,
however no virus scanner is 100% effective as manufactures cannot keep up with
the rapid change of viruses that happens daily.
Be sure to update yours regularly.
