Unfortunately I have an eight-year-old, Mac Mini, which can't be upgraded to Yosemite, because it only has an 80-GB hard drive.

Having the same problem, it is as if I am typing in slow motion. My 2012 Macbook Air was pretty snappy, but we will have to see! I am noticing reduced sluggishness as I use the computer. Have no regrets and like how Apple has simplified some tasks. However, I will really have to think about whether or not to upgrade my 2009 iMac.

Just finished the upgrade install and repairing permissions, started off with sluggish typing feedback, but Ava seems to be catching up. Maybe she just needed her morning coffee.

Tried switching voices, seems about the same. Right now I’m using a French voice, seems about the same, slightly sluggish, but no more than my brain trying to keep up with a different language. French is on my machine so I can keep up with a fist grader in French emersion.

Switching to a few different voices, seems about the same. Each one needs a few lines to start keeping up. Nice to be ahead of the stern British Kate for a change, I always feel like she is scolding me.

Compact voice doesn't seem to be a lot different, still a bit of a lag, maybe a touch quicker than the full voices.

The most sluggish aspect seems to be switching voices.

Cheers

Let me beat Keith to this…did you repair permissions after the install?

Havne’t upgraded yet, but I’ve had this problem with particular voices, often when I’ve got way too many things open. I assume it’s a resource problem, like I’m eating to much RAM. Have you tried a compact voice just for comparison?

Hi all.

Somehow I didn't notice this when I was doing the beta with my MBA but I find on my imac that when I type an email, the voice can't seem to keep up. I've tried Alex and my infovox voices. I have my feedback set to characters and words and often there will be silence or just little sounds, mostly vowels, when i get to typing fast. Is there something i should do to my settings to make this better?

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."

I decided to take the plunge and install Yosemite on my MacBook air. So far, things seem to be working pretty well. I am actually using enhanced dictation to compose this message. In Mavericks, this would crash mail. So, this seems to have been fixed. I'm curious to hear what others have to say about Yosemite if people decide to upgrade.
