Sarah,

There are alternatives.  if Textedit's robustness falls short of what you 
need, nisus writer pro should do the trick but There is a lot of stuff that 
vo does not show in word processing even though there are a ton of keyboard 
shortcuts and you can do a lot.  A braille display helps a lot though.

I use Microsoft Word for all my essays and other university stuff. Can I use
text edit for this or should I invest in apple's word processor Pages or
should I invest in microsoft office for mac?
