LOL! That’s too funny Ian! Thanks for the laugh! And, now that you said that,
it does sound like WIFI shoes to me too!
Take care,
Russell

Ok, I’ve been meaning to get back to checking this out, now I realize what
you’re talking about after carefully reading the subject line. For the
entirety of the thread I thought you were talking about WiFi enabled shoes,
as in footwear. However I’ve got my speech set, it really really sounded like
WiFi shoes with new IMac. I was picturing some sort of fitness tracking shoes
that sent information to your computer via WiFi.

Hey TF. Yes, absolutely you were correct.
Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
Hope you are enjoying your new iMac as much as I am mine.

Hi TF,
I logged in to my router settings by going to Safari and typing the
address of my router, it will be something like 192.168.0.255. My router
has a feature called “Smart Steering”, which combines Bothe the 2.4 G and
5 G bands, and shows them as one band. The router then switches between
bands as necessary. I turned off Smart Steering, and then was able to
choose either band independently. Then you can change the channel each
band uses in the WIFI setting of your router.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
Just thought I’d update the list regarding my issues with my iMac
dropping Internet connections after waking from sleep. I did a bit more
Googling and found a lot of people who had Telus as their service
provider were having issues keeping WIFI connections on the 5G band. I
tried switching to the 2.4G band, and the issue was solved. I then
contacted Telus to see if we could figure out why the 5G band kept
dropping connection. The person there changed the channel of the 5G
band, and now all is well on both the 2.4G and 5G bands.
Thanks all.

Hi,
Yes, WIFI is at the top. Others have suggested removing all the
available networks and then re-connecting to my network but this
didn’t help. Another suggestion was to delete some network
configuration files, but again, this didn’t fix the issue.
I don’t think this was happening in Sierra. I re-installed High Sierra
last weekend, but this didn’t help. I didn’t do a clean install, so
may try that next.
Thanks for your help.

Hi TF,
Yes, I thought it was you who had the same system.
That’s what I’ve been doing when I get disconnected from WIFI, turn
WIFI off and then back on again. I did try unplugging my modem to
reset it, but that didn’t fix the issue. A Google search finds many
others having this issue, not necessarily with an iMac 2017, but
most seem to be running High Sierra. I just want to make sure it’s
not a hardware issue, but Apple seems not very helpful. I sent them
a log file so they could pass it on the the engineers, and now they
want me to try things like turning off Bluetooth, disabling Handoff,
etc. Disabling Handoff did nothing to fix the issue.
I’ll keep plugging away at this and see if I can get it resolved.
Oh, BTW: Do you know if Apple Care has in-home support? I really
don’t feel like packing up my iMac and taking it to an Apple Store,
but it’s beginning to look like that may be my only option.
Thanks TF.

Russell, I believe I have the same iMac 21.5". I get a few
disconnections, not often, not as often as you are getting.
If it happens I would go into the extra menus into wifi, turn it
off then go back in and turn it on again.
Only other suggestion is to turn your wifi router completely off,
disconnecting the power plug for 30 seconds then turn it on again,
this may reset any errors in the modem.
I am using bluetooth keyboard and mouse is connected though I don't
use it.
I suspect the router/modem and suggest you ensure the problem is
not with that rather than your iMac.
Can you hardwire connect to the router ?

Hi all,
I know at least one other person on this list has the same iMac I
just purchased last June, an iMac 2017. I’m having issues where my
WIFI keeps disconnecting. It shows as being connected when I look
at the WIFI icon in menu extras, but I am not able to connect to
the Internet or send/receive email. It first only happened when
waking my iMac from sleep, but now it seems to be disconnecting
randomly, while I’m using my Mac. I can’t pin down exactly when
this issue began. I didn’t have this issue when I purchased my
iMac last June, and I don’t think it started when I first
installed High Sierra, but I think perhaps one of the High Sierra
updates may be the culprit. I’ve been on the phone with Apple
quite a few times with no resolution. On my last call they wanted
me to turn off Bluetooth and see if the issue went away, but I
don’t have access to a wired keyboard, so wasn’t able to do that.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, and, if so, have you found
a fix?
Thanks in advance.
