An agreeable suggestion indeed. If you’re comfortable with Pages on both iPhone
and Mac, you could use a folder structure in iCloud like you were using in
Notes, individual documents instead of notes. An advantage of this is that
files/documents in iCloud can be sorted by name, unless you cnage the default
setting in Notes they sort by last edited, so if you change anything your
Genesis 20 note could end up at the top of the folder instead of in sequence.
So, if you have a good amount of storage in iCloud and you are comfortable with
the Pages app on iPhone this is a great solution.

Since Pages is native to both Mac and IOS, and since you have so VERY many

month, ... and since I have many notes that are longer than 4,096 characters
(roughly one printed page), so I can’t attest to this size limit, you might
want to just copy the notes that are really long into Pages. When it comes
time to choose a template in Pages, BTW< I always go with “Blank,” to avoid
issues of formatting. Then, it’s just another good word processor. Good luck!

Hi Mark, maybe that is the case I do not know. I have a bout 2500 notes on
my Notes app. iCloud tells me I have over 4 GB of free space. I have other
notes that are very long and they seem to be saved without any problems.
Whatever the case may be I’m thinking I should make up copies of all these
folders and notes and store them locally on my iMac just in case. I may
even copy all the notes into pages documents if anything for back ups.
Thank you very much for your response.

I had a problem with Notes when files got too big, too, but don’t
remember just how big. For that reason, I started using Pages, which is a
bit tricky formatting-wise, but handles really large bikes with sharing
quite well. It also has options to recover earlier versions in case you
mess up and lose text you didn’t mean to. Like me. *blush*

The Notes app is indeed a good option for working on both machines.
Sorry for asking so many questions in troubleshooting, but this is a
curious situation.
Did anythign happen to your other Notes folders? If they are still on
your phone that indicates the problem is specific to your septuagint
folder. You can try disconnecting Notes from Icloud and then
reconnecting it, that might push the folders back to your iPone.
You could also try creating a new Notes folder on your Mac and copying
your folders to it, the new folder may show up on your iPhone.
The reason I asked about the Greek or English translation was that I’d
be rather helpless trying to provide resources in Greek, but I’m pretty
familiar with the app options for English translations. I do like your
plan to make a personal copy, I have that with one of my translations
that I use a bunch, I’ve got different marks and notes that mean
something to me but not to anyone else.
I also like your plan to have a local copy of your preferred translation
that doesn’t rely on the Internet.
Peace,
Ian

hi Ian,After I sent the email message to the group, I went to the iMac and
opened up the notes app. I waited while the notes app updated it self.
I checked and the folder is there with all the notes. I was relieved
that all my work did not go to waist. However, even though I restarted
the notes app both on my iPhone and iMac, the folders and notes are no
where to be found on my iPhone. I did check the notes folder and the
notes are not there. Now i’m even more baffled, I started this project
on the iPhone, and the project seems to be saved on the iMac which is
great, but no matter what I do I can’t get it to download onto the
iPhone.
Any ideas, how i can get the folder and notes to download back on to
the iPhone? The goal is to have these very important notes both on my
iPhone and iMac hense why I decided to use the notes app for this
project.
As per your questions, sorry i’m not sure what you are asking me. As I
said the phone or the mac doesn’t read ancient Greek. However even if
it did, it is very hard to understand. The English version is much more
comprehensible to me, even though I am very fluent in modern Greek. I
can understand quite a bit of the original Greek text but not all of
it, so I lose the meaning of what i’m reading. Also like i said sinve
voiceover doesn’t read the ancient Greek it’s useless to me. The
website i’m coppying from offers both the English and Greek.
The reason i’m doing this, is for personal reading. I would like to
have my own copy of the septuagint bible on my iPhone and iMac so that
i can read off line at my own leasure without the internet. also the
layout of the iPhone and iMac makes reading easier for me as a blind
user.

If you have the Notes app set to synch to your Mac through iCloud you

disappeared the notes will likely be in there.
A couple follow up questions on your project, are you looking for an
English translation of the Septuagint, Or one using Greek characters?
In seminary I got a waver from biblical languages because at that time
we couldn’t make my computer speak Greek or Hebrew, but that was 20
years ago and a lot has changed since then

Hi everybody, the strangest thing happened to me. I wonder if anybody
has some thoughts on this situation.
Some of you may remember that IM of a Greek background. In the
orthodox Greek church we read the septuagint bible. I will not get
into the reasons or debates about why we read this Bible etc.
This email is not to debate religion but something strange that
happened to me.
The Ancient Greek language is very difficult to understand, unless
you have studied the ancient Greek language academically in depth the
average Greek person cannot understand the ancient Greek language.
Also voiceover cannot read the ancient Greek language properly. On
the Mac the Greek voice is broken. However on the iPhone the Greek
voice still works for reading modern Greek. As I said above I do not
understand ancient Greek. I was given a website that has the English
translation of the septuagint bible. I decided I would take on a huge
project of copying all the text of the Bible onto my iPhone. I
started this project on Saturday night.
I would go to the website and click Genesis, chapter 1, I would flick
right until I heard the text of page One , As soon as voiceover would
begin to speak the text of Genesis, chapter 1, page 1, I would triple
top four times so that voiceover could copy the last spoken text.
I went into the Notes app and created a folder, and named it, the
Septuagint Bible English.
I went into that folder, and created another folder called Genesis.
I went into the folder called Genesis and created a new note, I
called it chapter 1.
I pasted the text that was in the voiceover clipboard into this new
note called chapter 1. When I was done with the whole chapter I
clicked done.
I clicked the back button and went back to the folder called Genesis,
and there I saw my first note called chapter 1. I created the next
note of course called chapter 2. I went back-and-forth between Safari
and the notes app creating these notes. As I said above I started
this on Saturday night. I continued doing this all day yesterday and
even this morning.
Up until about an hour ago in my notes app I had the folder called
the Septuagint Bible English, in that folder I had another folder
called Genesis, and in the folder called Genesis I had 35 notes. Of
course that means 35 chapters. As I begin to create the 36th chapter
the notes app crashed and to my horror everything has disappeared.
There is no such folders in my app, no notes, everything has
disappeared as if I did not start this project on Saturday. Does
anybody have any idea what happened? Of course my next question is
there anyway to recover all this work that I did?
Any advice would be appreciated, thank you in advance for any
thoughts, ideas, and or help.
