Bean will give a word count. It also does basic formatting. Voiceover will give you info on the formatting. You might find that accessing the pdf through print preview works to count pages. I always understood that nanocount was a sort of extension program of textedit and didn't work with other word processors. I have found the nanocount/textedit a good combination though.
