Having said all that, and despite the horribly botched invasion, I do
think that Iraq is better off and I hope, in the long run, a stable
democratic government can establish itself.  



A.A. Do these two clauses contradict each other?  I wonder if you can elaborate 
on the first half of the sentence, i.e., how is Iraq better off?



P.E.  And here Bush is surely
right: it is only the Iraqi people who can make it work and the sooner
they take over the job, the better.



A.A.   There are three Iraqi peoples.  Which ones are going to do it?
