There might be another explanation as well. Some men have experienced the embarrassment of seeing what they thought was a private message appear on a list to which both they and the intended recipient belonged. Such emails will usually contain unspeakably nasty remarks about someone else on the list.

Women, perhaps, have no shame. (I'm sending this to you only, of course.)
