By definition your interpretation is incorrect.  However bad it was done, it
was done in fulfillment of a court decision after a legal trial and
therefore not a lynching.
There were a number of lynching in the USA that fit Lawrence's standard. People were convicted and a mob entered the prison and lynched the person.
Lawrence is alone on this issue. Neither the US nor the British government support what happened. Even the Iraqi government is embarassed about the event.
