Daimler: Neues Technologiezentrum wird mit Sindelfingen verbunden
Daimlers neues Prüf- und Technologiezentrum Immendingen soll Teil des Betriebs
des weltgrößten Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstandorts des Autobauers in
Sindelfingen werden. Betriebsrat und Konzern haben ein entsprechendes
Eckpunktepapier unterschrieben, teilte der Konzern mit. In den Aufbau des
Technologiezentrums auf einer Fläche von rund 520 Hektar investiert Daimler gut
200 Millionen Euro. Daimler will einen Großteil der Testfahrten auf das Gelände

Drei Milliarden Euro für E-Autos
Politiker von CDU und SPD wollen laut einem Bericht des "Handelsblatts" eine
Sonderabschreibung für gewerbliche Kunden von Elektroautos durchsetzen.
Hintergrund sind die anhaltend niedrigen Zulassungszahlen. In Berlin befürchtet
man, dass das Ziel von einer Million Elektroautos auf deutschen Straßen bis zum
Jahr 2020 andernfalls nicht erreichbar ist. In zwei Wochen wird Bundeskanzlerin
Angela Merkel zusammen mit Managern der großen Autohersteller und
Wissenschaftlern Halbzeitbilanz ziehen. Dabei soll ein Paket aus
Forschungsgeldern und Unterstützung für den Aufbau von Lade-Infrastruktur
beschlossen werden, das den Staat bis 2020 etwa drei Milliarden Euro kosten

Continental-Werk in Gifhorn droht Schrumpfkur
Mit der Fabrik in Gifhorn steht ein weiterer Standort von Continental auf dem
Prüfstand. Das Werk beschäftigt 1.600 Menschen, darunter auch 100
Auszubildende. Der Automobilzulieferer spricht von einer "kritischen
Auftragslage" und Effizienzproblemen in der Produktionsstätte, die
Elektromotoren, Bremsen- und Hydraulikbauteile herstellt. "Eine Schließung
steht aber nicht zur Debatte. Auch betriebsbedingte Kündigungen wollen wir
vermeiden", unterstrich eine Konzernsprecherin auf Anfrage.

A123 verdoppelt Lithium-Ionen-Akku-Kapazität
Der Automobilzulieferer A123 Systems will 200 Millionen Dollar investieren, um
die Produktionskapazität seiner drei Fabriken für Lithium-Ionen-Batterien zu
verdoppeln. Innerhalb der kommenden drei Jahre soll die Kapazität der Werke in
Michigan (USA) sowie Hangzhou und Changzhou (beide China) auf 1,5
Gigawattstunden wachsen. Die Batteriezellen-Produktion der zwei Werke bei
Detroit soll ebenfalls von 3,3 Millionen Zellen auf 4,3 Millionen Zellen

Vernetzte Assistenzsysteme für Motorräder
Systeme wie ein kurventaugliches ABS steigern bereits heute die Sicherheit auf
dem Motorrad immens, wenn der Fahrer sie richtig einsetzt. In Zukunft hält
außerdem die Vernetzung auch auf zwei Rädern Einzug: Erste
Fahrerassistenzsysteme mit Umfelderkennung sollen in zwei oder drei Jahren
erhältlich sein. Ein Assistenzsystem wie das Kurven-ABS von Bosch kann nach
Angaben des Herstellers zwei Drittel aller selbst verschuldeten Motorradunfälle

Freikolbenmotor als Stromerzeuger im Elektrofahrzeug
Im Interview spricht Florian Kock, Projektleiter Freikolbenlineargeneratoren
(FKLG) am Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), über die Entwicklung
dieses Systems für zukünftige Elektroautos. Das Potenzial der FKLG besteht Kock
zufolge darin, dass sie Flexfuel-tauglich sind - "das bedeutet, wir können
unterschiedliche Kraftstoffe im selben Motor verwenden." Zudem werde das System

Daimler: new technology center to be part of Sindelfingen
Daimler's new inspection and technology center Immendingen is supposed to
become part of the world's biggest R&D site of the automaker in Sindelfingen,
Germany. The works council and the group have signed a benchmark paper to this
effect, the company announced. Daimler is to invest about 200 million euros in
building the 520 hectare technology center. The automaker wants to transfer the
bulk of test-drives to the new premises and to further develop its autonomous

Three billion euros for electric cars
Politicians of the governing coalition in Germany (Conservatives, CDU; and
Social Democrats, SPD) plan to establish an additional capital allowance for
commercial electric-car clients, German daily "Handelsblatt" reported. The move
is motivated by the persistently low registration numbers for electric
vehicles. Berlin is concerned that its goal of bringing one million electric
cars on German roads by 2020 can otherwise not be reached. German chancellor
Angela Merkel is to meet with managers of large automakers and with scientists
in two weeks' time to take stock of the achievements made so far. The
participants are supposed to agree on a package of research grants and
financial support for building recharging infrastructure that would cost the

Continental plant in Gifhorn threatened with cost cuts
With its plant in Gifhorn, Germany, another Continental site is under close
scrutiny. The plant employs 1,600 staff, including 100 apprentices. The
automotive supplier attributes the development to a "critical order situation"
and efficiency problems at the plant, which produces electric engines as well
as parts of brakes and hydraulic systems. "However, a closure is not an issue.
And we also want to avoid compulsory redundancies," a company spokeswoman

A123 to double lithium-ion battery capacity
Automotive supplier A123 Systems plans to double the manufacturing capacity at
its three lithium-ion battery plants in a 200 million dollars investment. The
company said it plans to increase capacity to 1.5 gigawatt hours at its plants
in Michigan (USA) as well Hangzhou and Changzhou (both China), over the next
three years. Battery cell production will also rise from 3.3 million cells out
of its two plants in suburban Detroit to 4.3 million cells, said A123 CEO Jason

Connected assistance systems for motorcycles
Systems such as ABS with curve-braking functions have already immensely boosted
motorcycle safety if the driver uses them correctly. Connected driving on two
wheels is now set to become an important feature of the future: The first
driving-assistance systems with environment recognition are supposed to be
available in two or three years' time. An assistance system such as Bosch's
cornering ABS system can moderate two in three self-imposed motorcycle

Free-piston engine to generate electricity in e-cars
In an interview, Florian Kock, head of the Free-Piston Linear Generator (FPLG)
project at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), talks about the development of
this system for future electric cars. Kock says that the FPLG's potential lies
in its fuel flexibility: "We can use different fuels in the same engine."
Moreover, the system makes less noise and is almost vibration-free.
