Daimler steckt weiteres Geld in die Modernisierung seiner deutschen Standorte.
In Kuppenheim nahe des Pkw-Werks Rastatt hat der Konzern am 13. April ein neues
Presswerk in Betrieb genommen. Die neue Pressenlinie beliefert die Fertigung
der A- und B-Klasse in Rastatt und im ungarischen Kecskemét sowie den
Auftragsfertiger Valmet in Finnland mit Außenhautteilen wie Seitenwänden,
Motorhauben und Türen aus unterschiedlichem Stahl und Aluminium.

Südafrika spricht mit fünf Autobauern über neues Werk
Südafrika führt Gespräche mit fünf Autobauern über ein neues Montagewerk in der
Hafenstadt East London. Es könnte der Industrie, die staatliche Anreize nutzt,
um Investitionen von Unternehmen wie Ford und BMW zu gewinnen, Auftrieb
verleihen. Der Industriepark-Betreiber East London IDZ will innerhalb eines
Jahres Verträge mit drei Herstellern abschließen, um in einer

Delphi kann als britisches Unternehmen betrachtet werden
Delphi Automotive hat ein Berufungsverfahren bei der US-amerikanischen
Finanzverwaltung Internal Revenue Service (IRS) gewonnen und kann nun als
britische Firma betrachtet werden. Dies teilte der Automobilzulieferer am 13.
April in einem Schreiben an die US-Wertpapieraufsichtsbehörde mit. Der IRS kam
am 8. April zu dem Schluss, dass Delphi keine Anpassungen für die Steuerjahre
2009 und 2010 vornehmen muss, hieß es weiter. Delphi kündigte außerdem ein 1,5
Milliarden Dollar schweres neues Aktienrückkauf-Programm an und teilte mit, die

Der Pressenhersteller Schuler investiert Millionen ins Formhärten am Stammsitz.
6,5 Millionen Euro gibt das Unternehmen für das sogenannte Hot Stamping
Tech-Center und die dort zu Demonstrations- und Schulungszwecken aufgestellte
Formhärte-Anlage mit hydraulischer Presse, Rollenofen und Kuka-Roboter aus. Mit
der stärkeren Konzentration auf den Leichtbau will die Firma Schuler ihre Krise

Die Autohersteller brauchen nach eigenen Angaben Benzin mit höherer Oktanzahl -
was eher dem entspricht, was heute in Europa verfügbar ist -, um die strengen
Verbrauchs- und CO2-Standards der US-Regierung für 2025 zu erfüllen. Bei einer
Podiumsdiskussion am 13. April auf dem SAE-Weltkongress über die zukünftige
Motoren- und Getriebetechnologie stimmten Antriebsexperten von General Motors,
Ford, Fiat Chrysler und Honda überein, dass Benzin mit höherer Oktanzahl, etwa

US-Sicherheitsexperte: Per Internet verbundene Autos sind Hacker-Magneten
Via Internet verbundene und fahrerlose Autos könnten Ziele für Hacker-Angriffe
sein, etwa durch Terroristen oder feindliche Nationen, warnt ein hochrangiger
Beamter des US-Justizministeriums. Die Automobilindustrie müsse daher
sicherstellen, dass entsprechende Fahrzeuge über einen integrierten
Cyber-Schutz verfügen. Die US-Behörden versuchten, das Bewusstsein der
Autoindustrie für Cyber-Bedrohungen zu stärken und sie dazu zu bewegen,
Sicherheitslücken schneller zu schließen. Die Behörden könnten Informationen
über Bedrohungen mit den Unternehmen teilen, sagte John Carlin,
stellvertretender Staatsanwalt für nationale Sicherheit, beim SAE-Weltkongress

Daimler: 170 million euros for new pressing plant
Daimler is putting more money in modernizing its German sites. The automaker's
new pressing plant in Kuppenheim, close to the passenger-car plant in Rastatt,
went operational on April 13. The new press line is to supply the manufacturing
of the A- and B-Class in Rastatt and in Kecskemét, Hungary, as well as the
contract manufacturer Valmet in Finland with car parts such as side panels,
hoods and doors made from different sorts of steel and aluminum.

South Africa in talks with five automakers about new plant
South Africa is in talks with five automakers about a proposed new assembly
plant in the port city of East London, a potential boost for an industry that's
using government incentives to attract investment from companies such as Ford
Motor and BMW. East London IDZ, which operates an industrial park, is seeking
to sign three manufacturers within a year to assemble vehicles in a shared
facility, Tembela Zweni, the state company's executive manager for zone

Delphi can be considered British company
Delphi Automotive has won an appeal with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and
can be considered a British firm, the automotive supplier said in a filing with
U.S. securities regulators on April 13. The IRS concluded on April 8 that
Delphi will not have to make adjustments for the 2009 and 2010 tax years, the
filing said. Delphi also announced a new 1.5 billion dollars share repurchase
program and added it will increase dividends by 16 percent in 2016.

Hot stamping: Schuler to focus on lightweight construction
German press manufacturer Schuler is investing millions in hot-stamping
technology at its headquarters. The company is spending 6.5 million euros for
the so-called Hot Stamping Tech Center, erecting a hot-stamping facility there
for demonstration and training purposes which features a hydraulic press,
roller kiln and Kuka robot. With the stronger focus on lightweight
construction, the firm aims to ultimately leave its crisis behind.

Powertrain executives press for higher octane gasoline
Automakers say they need higher octane gasoline, more in line with what is
available in Europe today, to meet the U.S. government's strict 2025 fuel
economy and CO2 standards. At a panel discussion on April 13 at the SAE world
congress on future engine and transmission technology, powertrain executives
from General Motors, Ford, Fiat Chrysler and Honda agreed that higher octane

Internet-connected cars a hacker magnet, U.S. official says
Internet-connected and driverless cars could be targets for hackers,
potentially including terrorists and hostile nations, so the automotive
industry must ensure vehicles have built-in cybersecurity protection, a top
U.S. Justice Department official stressed. U.S. agencies and regulators are
trying to make the auto industry more aware of cyber threats and quicker in
acting to plug security gaps, and agencies can share information about threats
with companies, John Carlin, U.S. assistant attorney general for national
