Mercedes mit starkem Zuwachs im ersten Quartal
Mercedes-Benz hat beim Umsatz im ersten Quartal des Jahres doppelt so schnell
zugelegt wie BMW. Damit übernimmt die Marke erstmals seit zehn Jahren die
Führung im weltweiten Luxus-Auto-Markt. Die Auslieferungen von Daimlers
Luxus-Sparte legten bis März weltweit um 13 Prozent auf 483.487 Fahrzeuge zu,
wie Zahlen des Herstellers belegen. BMW wuchs eigenen Angaben zufolge indes um

Audi schafft Rekordverkäufe zu Jahresbeginn
Im ersten Quartal 2016 hat Audi 455.750 Autos abgesetzt und damit vier Prozent
mehr als im Vorjahreszeitraum. Der März war außerdem mit einem Plus von 4,6
Prozent auf 186.100 verkaufte Fahrzeuge der beste Monat der

Hella wächst schneller als der Markt
Die "solide" Nachfrage in Europa und Amerika und die anziehenden Geschäfte in
China haben in den ersten neun Monaten des Bilanzjahres 2015/16 für ein
Umsatzplus beim Scheinwerfer-Hersteller Hella von rund zehn Prozent auf 4,65
Milliarden Euro gesorgt. Der operative Gewinn (Ebit) stieg bereinigt um
Sonderbelastungen aus einem Lieferausfall um rund neun Prozent auf 345
Millionen Euro. Unter Berücksichtigung der Einmaleffekte in Höhe von 47
Millionen Euro sank das Ebit jedoch um etwa 20 Millionen auf 290 Millionen

Kathrein: So viel Mobilfunk im Auto gab es noch nie
Der Antennenspezialist Kathrein verzeichnet besonders im automobilen Sektor
enorme Zuwächse, denn im Auto werden immer mehr Antennen für funktionierendes,
störungsfreies Telefonieren und Kommunizieren nach außen gebraucht. Im
kommenden Sommer eröffnet Kathrein deshalb zusammen mit dem schwedischen
Mobilfunkbetreiber Ericsson in Rosenheim eine eigene Teststrecke mit eigener
Infrastruktur, die die Kathrein-Werke in und um Rosenheim vernetzen soll. "Wir
wollen zeigen, was unsere Technik kann", sagt Michael Heise, Geschäftsführer

Dobrindts Gesetz zum autonomen Fahren
Am Mittwoch hat das Bundeskabinett in Berlin einen Gesetzentwurf von
Bundesverkehrsminister Alexander Dobrindt verabschiedet, der den Rechtsrahmen
für das autonome Fahren schafft. Dem zufolge soll der Computer im Auto dem
Menschen gleichgestellt werden. Das Gesetz listet Regeln für den Einsatz
automatisierter Autos auf, die selbständig fahren können, wenn die Straße frei

Eine Solarzelle auch für Regen
Wissenschaftler aus China haben eine Solarzelle entwickelt, die aus
Regentropfen Strom erzeugt. Dafür haben sie die Solarzellen mit Graphen
beschichtet, einem einlagigen Kohlenstoff, der sehr gut Strom leitet und der in
Wasser an seine Elektronen positiv geladene Ionen binden kann. Dennoch ist der
Wirkungsgrad der Solarzelle noch stark verbesserungswürdig: Er beträgt nur etwa
6,5 Prozent, im Vergleich zu 20 Prozent bei einer herkömmlichen guten

Mercedes with fast sales growth in the first quarter
Mercedes-Benz boosted sales twice as fast as BMW in the first quarter, moving
the brand closer to gaining the lead in the world's luxury-car market for the
first time in a decade. Deliveries of Daimler's luxury unit soared 13 percent
worldwide to 483,487 vehicles through March, data from the automaker showed
last week, compared with a six percent increase to 478,743 cars for BMW Group's

Audi posts record sales at the beginning of the year
Audi's sales rose four percent year-on-year to 455,750 cars in the first
quarter of 2016. March saw an increase of 4.6 percent to 186,100 sold cars,
making it the most successful month in terms of sales in the company's history.
Demand in Germany essentially contributed to this outcome: Sales jumped about

Headlight manufacturer Hella posted revenues of 4.65 billion euros for the
first nine months of fiscal year 2015/16, up ten percent compared to the same
period a year ago, benefitting from "solid" demand in Europe and America as
well as improving business in China. Earnings before interest and taxes (ebit)
before special expenses for a supply shortage rose about nine percent to 345
million euros. However, including one-time items to the tune of 47 million

Kathrein: unparalleled mobile telephony in the car
German antenna specialist Kathrein has gained enormous growth in the automotive
sector in particular, as more and more antennae are needed in cars to enable
functioning, trouble-free phone calls and external communication. As a
consequence, Kathrein and Sweden's mobile operator Ericsson plan to jointly
open a test circuit with its own infrastructure this summer, connecting the
Kathrein plants in Rosenheim and the vicinity. "We want to show what our
technology is capable of," said Michael Heise, CEO Kathrein Automotive.

Dobrindt's draft law for autonomous driving
Germany's federal cabinet adopted a draft law by transport minister Alexander
Dobrindt in Berlin on Wednesday that creates the legal framework for autonomous
driving. According to the draft law, the computer in the car will be treated as
equal to humans. The law lists rules for the use of automated cars that can
drive autonomously if the road is free and the system is not overloaded.

A solar cell for rain as well
Scientists from China have developed a solar cell that can produce electricity
from rain drops. They have coated solar cells with graphene, a one atom-thick
layer of carbon atoms with excellent conductivity. When the material is placed
in an aqueous solution, it can bind positively-charged ions with
negatively-charged electrons. However, the solar cell's level of efficiency
still needs improvement: It stands at about 6.5 percent, compared to 20 percent
