Thank you all. I am well aware how difficult it is to express sympathy
whether in person or via written word. We all find that nothing ever seems
to quite fit the emotion we all feel but I know and understand the sentiment
behind them. It will be a major upheaval as I rearrange my finances and
downsize but I would not have it any other way. As many of you know, I deal
with things in a logical way and usually face whatever life throws at me
head on. I have had several crossroads in my life where it seems my whole
world has turned upside down but on each occasion I’ve come through it
stronger than ever. At least this time there is a legacy in that I have
Tracy’s son, partner and grandson still very much a part of my life and, I’m
told, a 16 year old still in care who thinks of me as her step dad and is
eager to meet me so I must have done something right!

With respect to the downsizing, this will go ahead at some point but there
is a process to be worked through with the local authority. This may happen
quickly or might take several months. I do know the type of property I am in
is in short supply locally and the local authority would be keen to move me
on as soon as they can so I can’t see it dragging on for too long.

Cutting my cloth, is more immediate. I shall be going from a household
income of about £450 per week to £73.10 per week while still being liable to
the same utility costs, £10.58 per week bedroom tax and £17.00 per month
council tax. Fortunately I do not have any significant debt and all my
service contracts are on a monthly rolling basis (e.g. mobile, sky, internet
and phone) so by cancelling some and restructuring others I should be able
to manage albeit living frugally. Of course in parallel to dealing with
Tracy’s funeral my priority is seeking paid employment and at present there
are seasonal vacancies which I may be able to take up until I find something
more permanent.

Life is always a series of challenges and right now I face several together
but how you deal with them is what makes you who you are. It’s just another
of life’s crossroads....

On Tuesday I lost Tracy, my partner of 15 years, to thoracic cancer. Tracy
was only 40 years old and has left behind 6 children though I only have
direct contact with 1 of them as they were all adopted before Tracy and I
got together.

Although I’m only in a 2 bedroom house austerity measures mean I can no
longer sustain the costs of living here on my own so shall be moving at the
earliest opportunity. I shall also have to carefully review all my financial
arrangements – cutting the coat according to the cloth – as it were. This
may mean an absence online for a while though I will inform you if this is
to be the case.
