I'll tell you what I did and you can see if you can extrapolate anything from it for your situation. I did a lot of experimenting and I read lots and lots of help files. I listened to manuals on tape and read users manuals in Braille when they were available. One of the biggest helps to me though was having an actual JAWS trainer. My city has a service, (had back then anyway) that specializes in teaching adaptive technology. You may have one too in yours or close enough to you for a day or two a week. I did this and got it paid for through the state because I didn't have a job at the time. Make friends with computer savvy (polite word for geeks like yours truly) people and get them talking to you and among each other. Set brain for maximum absorbtion and just let 'em talk. And don't be afraid to just get your hands on the thing and mess around with it. Crashes and slain pc's build character. Once your fists recover from the desk pounding, once your throat feels all scratchy after all that swearing and yelling, and once you finally get to bed after unsnarling a snafu or two, you'll have learned a lot. It is said that Edison messed up 99 times before he landed on the proper way to make a lightbulb. Said he figured he learned 99 ways to do it wrong. Same thing with a PC. I've never checked out the basic training material, but I gather it assumes you are new to computers and Jaws. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
