She does have a computer but mainly used by her husband and family. By the way I am also wary of C cleaner, I did once read all the conditions, and they said before using do a complete back up, whilst my dell win 7 has external backups, this old laptop has not. regards dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: Adrian Spratt To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 17, 2010 12:47 PM Subject: RE: strange issue Exactly. I'm only suggesting it as a place to start, if you haven't already. Dorothy is right to warn against deleting all items. After you run the disc clean operation, you're presented with several check-box items. I check temporary Internet files, temp files, the recycle bin and related items. I've read cautions against checking "compress old files." If that doesn't work, Mostafa's mention of a possible virus shouldn't be ruled out. The virus attack I sustained several years ago began with inconsistent effects on my computer before turning into a total disaster. No harm running a virus scan. I apologize if I seem to be writing about basics, but I'm trying to be sure I'm clear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Omar Binno Sent: Friday, December 17, 2010 12:20 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: strange issue Hi Adrien, Are you refering to the one where you go to the properties of the harddrive and choose the disk clean? ----- Original Message ----- From: Adrian Spratt To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2010 11:50 PM Subject: RE: strange issue Omar, There are so many possible explanations for these problems, but I'd start by doing a disc clean. Just so you know, I've used JAWS 10 and IE8 on my system, which is XP and not your XP Home, without a hitch. That doesn't mean they aren't implicated in your case. However, I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere else. A disc clean, if you haven't done it for a while, has a good chance of eliminating false positives. If you're unfamiliar with MS's disc clean, please post back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Omar Binno Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2010 10:16 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: strange issue Hello, I'm using jaws 10 on a windows xp home system. I have internet explorer 8 installed. I wanted to run this by here to try and pinpoint whether or not this is a jaws 10 issue or not. Sometimes, when I open internet explorer or outlook express, the computer freezes for about 30 seconds, then the entire screen goes black and I end up having to restart my computer. Also, when this happens, i sometimes lose cookies from internet explorer that have my password saved from my GMail account, for example, and i end up having to go back to my gmail or facebook accounts to re-enter the info. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Thanks.
