Ray another way to try and shut down the computer is the press the windows
key and then the letter u and press the enter key.

Try pushing and releasing your power button quickly. Depending on how your system is set up, it should shut down the computer. Don't hold the power button in or it will shut off the computer without properly shutting down windows, you do not want to do that.

How do we force a shutdown when the system stops talking and we can't read the Task Manager? My new computer gets into a state where I can not shut down with windows key u u. or by ctrl alt del alt-u u.
Is there a better way to shut down safely when the system seems to hang?
