Hi Michael. I'm sorry, but I'd need to know how you backed up your hard
drive (that's what you mean, isn't it?). Do you mean you manually copied
some or all of the folders to another medium, like floppies (this isn't done
very often for saving very much material anymore, as hard drives have become
so huge that not practical. But you said "disk," so I'll presume you meant
one or three or twenty diskettes. If not, tell me.
My first question is, did you use some sort of automatic backup program, and
discover that it balked when it got to the folders where you email files are
and refused to copy them? Or did you select various folders manually and
find that the email message folders refused to be selected and copied?
Or, and this might be the real problem, which would be hard to guess except
that you said you're so new to this stuff: Were you trying to figure out
how to simply back up Outlook Express or some other email client (program)?
That is a special procedure that others know how to do, but it's not a
simple thing.
What we were discussing here was simply identifying the folder where your
email messages are kept, a regular folder, and then copying it to someplace
like the flash memory sticks that many people have begun using for this
purpose, which are small devices like .mp3 players but hold only data, not
music, and plug into the USB port on your computer.
This may help you restate your problem, I hope. But if it is this idea, of
selected and copying folders and files, then you should read the messages
just before you saw mine. It was about this very thing. You simply have to
know which folder your message files are in (there is an explanation a few
messages back), and then you can select the folder and copy it somewhere.
Hope this begins to help.

Thank you Yardbird for your response. I am a musician of 40 years and
am quite computer illiterate, so please bare with me. I recently backed up
my computer to disk, but my e mail addresses in outlook wouldn't save.
Would you by chance know the reason for this?

Hello. I am blind cat. I'm new to the list. I have a question about
saving my e mail addresses to disk. I use outlook express.
