The problem is that JAWS uses iits own keyboard driver which conflicts with any keyboard software installed.

Subject: Strange Keyboard Quirk

Hi, folks. I hope this issue is still on topic; I'm not sure whether JFW
has anything to do with this or not.

All the keyboards I use on various systems have the multimedia/shortcut keys
above the main QWERTY keyboard, such that I can hit one of these keys to
raise or lower speaker volume, to mute sound, to open Internet Explorer, to
put the system on Standby, etc.
Recently I've noticed with my main two keyboards, that JAWS thinks I'm
typing a character, and it echoes that "character," when I either raise or
lower my sound volume using these little shortcut keys. For instance, when
I type the one that raises my volume, holding it down until the sound is
where I want it, I hear this echo that sounds like B B B B B B B B B for as
long as I hold it. Similarly, when I lower my sound card's volume using
that shortcut key, I here C C C C C C C C C for as long as that particular
key is held. Muting or unmuting produces the sound D, even though I have
not typed the letter D into any document or form field.

Another of my keyboards does almost the same thing, but says F14 whenever I
lower my volume with that shortcut key. So there is an association here
between the buttons and what JAWS thinks is a letter or function key; but I
don't want it to be there.

How do I disconnect these annoying sounds from the buttons I press to make
simple tasks happen in Windows? Has anyone else ever experienced this? Or
are the gods just toying with me?

Kind regards,

-Kane
