"Status line" vs. "Status Bar"

A knowledgeable friend just corrected my misimpression about this.  it's 
been too long since I read the documentation referring to these screen 
elements, or seen them, and I'd forgotten that this area at the bottom of a 
Word or OE screen is more than a line of informative words and numbers.  My 
friend reminds me that, similar to the Task Bar on the Desktop, they, too, 
contain control buttons that a mouse user could click on to do certain tasks 
in the program.  So I take back what I said.  I've heard these referred to 
as "lines" many times by experienced computer users, blind and sighted 
alike, and assumed that this is what they were called.
