Hi Jana,

press ctrl+p for preferences, then select plugins, open that and select output. 
Press tab to get to the list of plugins.
There will be a plugin called "Nulsoft Wave out".
Select that and tab to the "configure" button.
Now you can adjust various options, among them are two checkboxes that say 
something like "enable volume control" and "Alt. setting method (slow)".
Check both of those, the "alt. method thing enables the alternative volume 
control, by which the Winamp volume is controlled separately.
The other controls can be left alone.
Press enter on OK, and now Winamp's volume should not affect the Windows volume 
anymore.
