Cindy, Here's a message that GWCox sent me. I did it to find out how to do it with jaws 7 and maybe if you go through all these steps you can find the assignment key and if anything is assigned in your version of jaws. Good Luck, Judith

Here's one that didn't make the announcement, but that has a lot of
potential value. In JAWS 7, there are new scripts in both the Outlook and
Outlook Express script files that, when enabled, allow you to reply directly
to the individual who sent a message to a list without replying to the whole
list. The scripts are named ReplyDirectlyToSender and here's how to enable
them:

1. Open your e-mail program, Outlook or Outlook Express. This function is
not available to Eudora users.
2. Press INSERT+8 to open the Keyboard Manager.
3. If necessary, press TAB once to move focus into the list if individual
scripts within the script source file.
4. In the list of scripts, locate the ReplyDirectlyToSender script.
5. Press CTRL+A to assign a keystroke to this script. I used CTRL+SHIFT+A
since it wasn't assigned to anything else, but you can use any other
unassigned keystroke.
6. Press TAB once and uncheck the check box that asks if you want to assign
the keystroke only to whatever keyboard configuration (desktop or laptop)
you're using.
7. TAB to the OK button and press ENTER.
8. Press ENTER again to save and exit.

I wonder why some of us can't do it, though. I can reply to someone who is
in my address book, but not someone who is not.

I'm able to reply to sender here with OE and Jaws 9 without the problems you are having. Your're not in my address book and I can reply to you directly
no differently than in previous versions of Jaws.

FSI's problem, as I see it, is that they do not do an adaquit job of
regression testing of their products before they are moved into production.
I also believe that a major cause of their problems is a lack of strict
coding standards where there are no exceptions and the absolute enforcement of these standards. Programmers like to be indivualists and do things their way and not be confined with rules, especially rules that they can't break.
The genius that wrote a given module of code may not be around when that
module needs to be revised and now the poor slob, who has to maintain the
code, obviously lacking the genius level intelegence of the original author,
has to decipher the convoluted rat's nest of code in order to make some
minor revision.

Sorry about the soap box just something I am adamant about.

Hi Bob,

That is a very good question. Of course, I have no way of checking that
for Cindy now, since her E-mail address is definitely in my address book at this point. However, I checked to make sure that your E-mail address wasn't
in my address book, then I tried using the Insert Shift r command to reply
directly to you.

The result was that I got the following message:

"Check names dialogue. No matches found for Bob Verity. Show more names
button." (end of quote)

When I clicked on the "Show more names button," I got the following message:

"Check names dialogue. Select who you mean by Bob Verity." (end of quote)

So, it seems that this feature no longer works unless the person's
E-mail address is already in your address book. Isn't that wonderful!!!

   Regards,

   Don

Don,

Was Cindy's email address already in your address book? I received the
same
message that Cindy described, that is it prompted me to supply an email
address.

Hi Cindy and list,

I just used the Insert Shift r command to reply to this post directly
to
Cindy and it seems to have worked all right.

Here is the reply I received from Cindy:

Yes, it did. But, when I do it, I get a message saying something about
select recipient and then wants me to choose from my address list. I've
never seen that before when using that command.

Cindy,

I just tried the Insert Shift r command with JAWS 9 on your post. Did
it
work?

The feature of insert shift r to reply directly to a sender doesn't seem
to
work in JAWS 9. It says "replying to sender" when I press it, but only
the
sender's name shows up and OE doesn't recognize it as an email address.
Has
this changed?
