I need to use the tool also cause Norton was really flaky on my system and had to be removed. Since I have sighted assistance at work but not at home where the computer needing the help is, is there any reason that I cannot download the tool onto a CD here and run it from the CD at home? Cher >>> "K Anderson" <kanderson8888@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> 02/07/07 6:29 PM >>> I uninstalled Norton the typical way via "Add/Remove" in the Control Panel and then used the utility tool for removing all traces of Norton. The only problem I had was dealing with one of those graphical security codes to access the downloaded removal tool. Fortunately I had sighted assistance available to me at that moment and the rest of the process went off without a hitch. That's why I recommended the special cleaning tool from Symantec, and I saw earlier where someone else did as well. It can put you in limbo--you can't get it out, can't reinstall it , because it sees something already there, and can't put in anything else. This tool works like a dose of salts--it's outa there! It's never a good idea to have 2 antivirus programs installed on the same machine, at least that's always been my experience. As I told others the advantage of NOD 32 is the fact that it doesn't get in your way, it doesn't slow down your computer while scanning for viruses, it updates itself in the background and if something does happen, it presents you a simple window that lets you decide which action to take. When you install NOD 32 however, do a custom install, and make sure that the custom graphical interface is not turned on. You can always turn it off after you install the program, but if it may present some issues with JAWS if you keep it on. Others on the list are using it too so if you need help in disabling the graphics, just ask. After using Nod 32 I'll never use anything else. I swear by it. It does cost a little bit of money, but for the protection it offers, it's an invaluable solution. plus it's accessible with JAWS, and it just plane works.
