Try opening Word before copying to the clipboard.  Do you get the Jaws 
message confirming that something has actually been copied to the 
clipboard?

Are you first selecting all with control-a, then cutting or copying to 
the clipboard with control-c or control-x, then alt tabbing to the open 
application and pressing control-V?
