Make sure you have status bar checked and that the navigation pane is set to "normal". Then get used to using the f6 key to jump between the folder list and the message list. Also note that you will always need to press the enter key on a folder in order to populate the message list. It's not the same as earlier versions of Outlook or Outlook Express. You could also use tab and shift-tab to jump between the folder list and message list. But you cannot get rid of the annoying set of quick search and query buttons that you'll land on if you just use the tab key alone. My 2 cents worth.
