Hi folks!
I just now listened to the latest addition of the FS podcast from
Freedom Scientific, and I've finally got the sscoop regarding the
status of JAWS and Vista. As I understand it, what they're going to
do is release a *free* update to JAWS 8.0 in early February, , and
yes, it will have windows vista support, as well as a whole bunch of
other bug fixes built into it.
As I said, if you're using JAWS 8.0 right now, this update is *free*!!!!
Ok so we got that out of the way. The next issue is
pricing. According to Eric Damery, the folks at FS would like to
encourage everyone who isn't in their S M A program to start using
it, because it'll make sure that you get either 1 or the next 2
updates available, remember this is all dependant upon wether or not
you're already on it and what your status might be. but for someone
who isn't on the SMA program and starts using it, they're guaranteed
a version of JAWS, probably 9.0 which will be out later in the year,
plus the next one after that. . But here's the important
part. Since they figure that almost no one will be using Vista home
basic, if you upgrade your system to Windows vista home premium,
which includes all the multimedia stuff, you'll be able to use your
existing JAWS standard license, if that's what you use today. So for
all of us using xp home and if we go to Vista home premium, we won't
have to pay $200 extra for another license.
Now of course if you're running Vista business or Vista ultimate,
you'll most likely have to use JAWS professional, but that's just an
idea I had based on what i heard.
Anyways, if you want the whole story, visit:

and listen. episode 2 is the one you'll want to listen to. and
remember this is just a regular mp3 file that you can listen to in
Winamp, so you can just feel free to download it, or if you're
already subscribed, you probably already have it.
Well, that's the scoop. I'm sure there'll be a mountain of messages
on this subject, so there you have it!
