Adrian,

First, as long as I've been using Word, I had no idea that Ignore All, which
I use only when I know that some word I've typed that looks wrong to the
spell check will recur further on in the document, I never knew it had the
ability to save what you told it. I'll have to experiment with that.
Interesting.

As for Jaws, why would Jaws have anything to do with this? Jaws doesn't
dictate to Word how to operate, so far as I'm aware. This sounds like just
a Word issue, and I assume it was moot that Jaws 8 happened to be the
version being used.

Now, if Jaws 8 has some new command that customizes the operation of the
Word spell check, please explain.

thanks.

I believe John is saying this is a new problem with JAWS 8. However, to
address the point in the message right below, "ignore all," which can be
reached by tabbing or by pressing alt-g, will save the spelling preference
for current and future sessions with that document. When the document is
saved after a spell-check, it retains all "ignore all" settings. I cannot
speak about grammar rules, since I don't use that feature.

John, Okay. Well, that makes all the difference. See, if spell check catches
a typo or a misspelled word (or, in your case, also what it sees as a
grammatical mistake depending on which level of diction you set the program
to judge by) and you don't do anything but say to ignore it, that isn't
recorded anywhere in the document, so it isn't saved when you exit the
document. Make sense?

I know, it's an inconvenience, sometimes. I often will work on one document
over a series of many sessions, and periodically check and recheck the
spelling of certain sections or the whole document, just to keep everything
as right as possible. Which means I have to tell spell check, again and
again, to ignore something it sees as a possible mistake but which I know is
a word or name I deliberately typed but don't prefer to add to the
dictionary because it's too close to another word in spelling and I could
always type it by accident and wouldn't want it to slide through and leave
me with a real error.

But it's not the worst inconvenience in the world for me, so I just grin and
bear it. Well, sometimes I yell at the spell check and say "hey, didn't I
tell you to ignore that, already?" but that's about it.

Hello yardbird, Yes I do mean when I reopen the document the spell check
does not seem to remember what it was told to ignore. I guess I have never
noticed it to this degree before. It is definitely taking me to task on some
of my less familiar grammar rules. Take care, John
