Laptops and hardware synthesizer for JFW

Hello listers,
I'm considering getting a laptop, and would prefer to use a hardware
synthesizer to work with JFW, since Eloquence and other software-based
synths slow down PC performance.
Can those of you who use a hardware synth with your laptop offer any
recommendations? I want something that gets its electrical power from the
laptop, versus something that requires another power source.
