Anne,

I know about the interview with Gates and Jobs, and I'm sure that was
interesting to listen to. I don't have any doubt that the general paradigm
we're so accustomed to about how our electronics and communicational gear
works and how it embeds itself into our daily environments is due for some
transformations that will seem dramatic to think of now, but over the span
of just a relatively few years, may seem like inevitable developments. it
just seems to work that way, and the changes come pretty quickly compared to
the rate of technological development in such areas before the rise of the
personal computer. But still, it's gonna take some time. In the meanwhile,
I'm not harboring great animus against anyone for holding anything back,
certainly not writers and publishers in the case of books. The history of
copyright law and custom is long and interesting, and involves plenty of
good intentions along with some ill-conceived ideas and unanticipated
outcomes. Inconvenienced though I may be by having to reach out here for
something from Audible, something else as an e-text scanned by someone else,
an NLS audiotape or, soon, digital file, or in a real pinch scanning and
cleaning up the text of a printed book myself, I care more about the laws
and business arrangements being worked out equitably than I do about having
everything available to me tomorrow on my computer. I don't want the same
kind of shakeup as has happened with music downloading to so violently
disarrange the publishing industry instead of the developments proceeding
with some planning.

But it should all be interesting, that's for sure. Meantime, I'm patient.

Hey Yardbird,
I watched an interview with Bill gates and Steve ? the CEO of Microsoft on
CNBC and according to the interview in the future there will be no more
keyboard andno more mouse. I am sure that accessibilities will be
considered. Believe me I think it is a ways away but I think we are
evolving to an operating system that might and I mean might be seamless for
everyone. A few months ago I remember Bill Gatesstating that allbooks will
be available on web. It is just a matter of time once the copyright issues
are worked out. Pretty soon I think information will be available to all
regardless of modality. Let's hope so. Imagine no added costs for
accessibility. Cheers in advance.
Ann
