here's an excerpt from the license agreement:

COPYING THE PROGRAM

The Licensee may not copy, transfer, decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the program or create a derivative work, or allow the program to be copied or transferred, in part or in whole, except as specifically indicated within this agreement. In the event the Licensee copies, transfers, decompiles, disassembles, or reverse engineers the program or creates a derivative work for another person in any form, except as is specifically authorized, then the Licensee's license to use the program shall be automatically terminated. The Licensee may install and use the program on more than one machine, but only one machine may be used at a time.

In the case of a Licensee who has purchased a Site, District, or Enterprise License, the Licensee may install the program on the specified number of machines as defined in the Site, District, or Enterprise License Agreement. The Licensee may install a Site, District, or Enterprise License on a Local Area Network (LAN) server, however, the concurrent number of users of the software cannot exceed the number of machines as defined in the Site, District or Enterprise License Agreement. This product is not intended, nor warranted to be installed or supported on a Wide Area Network (WAN) except to allow the use of a WAN for Enterprise-wide license authorization. The Licensee may copy the program for backup purposes to preserve the program. These copies and the original program may be stored in the possession of another person, so long as the storage does not result in the program being used in violation of the terms set forth above in this section.

I think I posed this same question to FS sometime around the JFW 4.5
days and came away without a clear answer but I might try it again. I
have been using my two licenses for my desktop and laptop but I have
been using Windoweyes 6.1 (I am a registered user of that as well) on my
two servers and my UMPC since I am befuddled on the JFW license
question. My original inquiry was brought on because I told a client to
purchase a separate license for their laptop. Evidently I may have
errored on this and may end up compensating them. I would like to run
JFW on the two servers as well but three more licenses is not in my
budget right now. One of my girlfriend's client's school purchased one
single user license of JFW 5 and installed it on 5 different computers.
I find it hard to believe that FS would be OK with that, but at least I
don't feel too bad knowing that I am not the only one confused about
this.

Frank,

I don't want to encourage laxness about this license question. However,
I'm
confident FS finds it acceptable for a purchaser to use the same license
to
run a desktop and laptop. By analogy with fair use in copyright law, a
manufacturer must allow you to use the license for your personal
purposes.
If that happens to encompass two computers, one for home and the other
for
travel, so be it. The assumption is that if you use the same license for

several computers, not just two, the purpose must be to have more than
one
user.

As has been pointed out in this thread, FS issues three activations at
once,
but the company usually issues new activations upon request. I interpret

these two facts together as permitting a licensee to use up to three
computers.

We should all re-read the license agreement, but I can't take the time
just
now. Because you're conscientiously using two licenses, you have nothing
to
lose by contacting FS directly and getting clarification.

Chris, thanks for the reply. Now I am even more confused than ever. For
my
personal computers I have a separate license for the desktop and laptop.
I
was under the impression that the initial 3 intalls were to replace an
existing install if something goes wrong. For example I just had to
reformat
the laptop and I will have to reinstall JFW., and I may have to do it
once
more in about a week as the project I am working on will probably
require
another reformat; but it will be on the same machine. Frank

I've taken the note to change the subject to be more rellevent.
Technically
you are correct, however, they do give you 3 activations, so, I guess,
in
theory, it could go on any 3 systems. I certainly wouldn't give one a
them
to a friend and pyrot it, that's not what I'm sayin by any means, but,
if
you're installing it on 3 a your own systems, then, yeah, I guess
theoretically you should be getting another license, but, then again,
not
really. I guess it just depends on how finaky you are about that sort a

thing. Me personally? I have my same key on both my desktop and on my
laptop.

Chris.

Hi all, can anyone shed some light on a JFW U.S.A. license question that
has
come up in speaking with a friend of mine. I was always under the
impression
that if you had one license then you could install it on only one
computer.
Is that correct information? I always thought that was the case but a
buddy
of mine insists it is not. This isn't merely a rethorical question as I
just
set up a laptop for a client of mine and I advised them purchase an
additional license of JFW. Did I waste their money? If so should I
reimburse
them out of my own pocket? Frank
