Thanks for the explanation, Bruce. I thought it would be useful for anyone to know who didn't download the final release of JAWS 9.

My system went crazy after I downloaded and started using JAWS 10, so I've uninstalled it.

The automatic update feature will not work over major version boundaries. This is by design, and a direct result of the fact that JAWS allows one to put multiple versions on the same system.

I assume that's because I've chosen not to download the last JAWS 9 update. So I went to FS's website. The first time I attempted to download JAWS 10 from there, I got a weird message about trying to open and save at the same time, even though I'd checked only "save." The second time went very smoothly.

Yep, and, I tried to update just now and something went wrong. The JAWS setup packager refused to install because a file could not be brought in or something. It suggested a repair on the current installation and try again.

Subject: JAWS 10 Goes Public

It's official. JAWS 10 has been released to the general public. The latest build, 512, is available for instalation from the Check for Updates option of the JAWS 10 Help menu. Once this update is installed, JAWS 10 will run in 40 minute mode unless your SMA authorizes you to reactivate it in full mode. If you do not plan to continue using JAWS 10 as your main version, remember to uncheck the "Start JAWS Automatically" box in the JAWS 10 Options Basics dialog box and recheck it in JAWS 9 or whichever version of JAWS you want to come up speaking in full mode when you turn on your computer. Otherwise, JAWS 10 will continue to come up when you turn on your computer, butwill shut off after 40 minutes unless you upgrade your SMA.
