This may not be quite what you want. On the other hand, it might be a simple solution. Why not hold down the Insert(jaws) key and cycle the "s" key until it says none. It will remain silent until you do the same thing again to say highlight or all. Again, not fancy but effective, just turn jaws off with Insert-F4. You should have a hot key assigned to turn jaws back on, usually control-alt-J. Not to be condescending, but if you don't know how to do this just ask on the list.
