Hello:
You just missed a round of discussions on this list about Google Docs. I think
several use certain Google applications with some success, including G Mail;
however, Google Docs is an access disaster. None of the screen reader makers
even try. Well, I talked personally to technical support at Freedom
Scientific, GW Micro, and Serotek. All immediately described Google Docs as
completely inaccessible.
I've tried Google Docs. The suite of applications is supposed to be a free,
on-line equivalent to Microsoft Office.
There is even an article in the help section of the on-line manual devoted to
"Access with a Screen Reader." It is all a fraud. None of it works.
Three cheers for NFB in taking on Google.

Subject: Google Apps With Jaws

Hi,

I'm new to the list, and I hope to learn about Jaws from many of you,
and hopefully I can be help as well.
I heard some of the colleges are switching to Google apps, and I think
NFB is concerned with the accessibility and suing some of the colleges.

The website has demonstration on how Google apps are inaccessible, but
in my opinion they're picking on it little too much.
Anyways, my school is also planning to switch as well, and they wanted
my opinion on it. Besides Google docs, major Google apps seem to work OK
for me even though their web interfaces are little clumsy. In fact, the
web interface that my school currently use is worse than Gmail. With
Gmail, I would gain iMap instead of pop3 too!
What I like about Google apps is that I can use Thunderbird and iPhone
to use Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts, and they work quite
nicely because I don't have to deal with web interface. Even with web
interface, I think it's manageable.
I guess I just wanted to find out your opinions on Google apps because
what works for me might not be the case for others.
Do you think Google apps are notoriously bad with screen readers?
Thanks,

JL
