I too have had a very similar problem with adobe digital editions freezing at the initializing stage. After two weeks dealing with adobe tech support, trying all kinds of computer configurations under the sun, I never did get the issue resolved. I also tried this with Window-eyes, and got the same results.
It would be too bad if this were an digital editions not working with a screen reader thing, since for years adobe has trumpeted that they were all for accessibility. I have been to the Adobe headquarters because of work, and they have always been open to accessibility in the past.
