Chip,
Can the hanging last for over 10-15 minutes?  I've never had that kind =
of=20
hanging so don't know what to expect in how long to wait to see.
If you are having a network card issue it can hang for as long as it =
takes.
Try updated your netcard drivers. =20
This HP laptop has both a mini PCI G wireless and a 10/100 Ethernet on =
it.=20
The 10/100 Ethernet is disabled, but it's drivers are up to date as best =
I=20
can determine according to what Microsoft or HP has.  The G wireless is =
also

similarly up to date, and is what is in use for network/internet.  I've=20
never had any wireless hang problems and I've used a wide variety of=20
wireless products from no particular vendor.

I don't use any software firewall; I have a Linksys WRT54G that is up to =

date on its firmware and have had no problems with it up to this point.  =
Not

saying there isn't something weird going on now with this updated HP =
system=20
on the network, and very likely I am encountering something strange here =
now

because I am somewhat out of date on the latest, greatest hardware.  =
Most=20
likely I am going to be scratching my head over this one for some time =
to=20
come; it appears it is going to take dumb luck to get it solved. -Greg
