Avast 5.0 and JAWS

Hello!
I recently had to upgrade to Avast 5 from 4.0 because the earlier
version is not supported. This version seems inaccessible. Does
anyone know a way around this. Also, it is not updating the virus
database automatically, nor announcing the updates it does do. Would
appreciate help.
