Thanks for your prompt response. I think your suggestion has led me to the
problem. Two or three years ago I possibly got fed up with activating the
wrong version of Jaws in the Start menu so decided to mark the older
versions with an "X" e.g. "xjaws5.0".
So, in my Start menu I realise now that I have xjaws50, xjaws510 and
xjaws620. I'd completely forgotten about them. Presumably this is what has
caused the problem.
I've tried to change the icons with F2 but it won't allow it. Have had a
good look round and tried to rememmber what I did last time with no luck. I
have a talent for missing the blindingly obvious...could someone plese point
it out to me.

Hi David, I admit I've not removed anything after 4.5, but you could try
going to the start menu, all programs, and find the relevant Jaws. There is
a sub-menu called tools, which contains an uninstall option.

I have several versions of Jaws from 5.1 to 7.0. Thought I would try a bit
of spring cleaning and get rid of some of these old versions.
When I try this from "Add/Remove Software" in Control Panel every version
comes up with the message
"The install shield engine (Ikernel.exe) could not be launched. Class not
registered."
Does this mean the relevant disks should be used in the uninstallation
process? I'm sure I've removed previous versions without problems before.
Any comments would be appreciated.
I think it is probably wise to keep version 6.0 but would like to get rid of
5.0 and 5.1.
