Hi Arne,

If you are a heavy user of speech recognition, you need to buy a specialized
microphone for speech recognition. Most internal sound cards have poor
shielding from internal computer noise so you do need a USB sound card and a
good noise canceling microphone. The microphone that comes with DNS is
really really cheep and not really usable. From my reading, the 4 best
microphones for DNS are as follows.
1. Sennheiser ME3 headset (modified for speech recognition)
2. Sennheiser MD431II
3. theBoom earhook
4. Samson Airline 77

There are several vendors out there who sell these microphones. One such
vendor is www.emicrophones.com. If you are in the UK, then you can also go
to itspeaking.co.uk. Finally, T&T and Next Generation Technologies I believe
do also sell microphones.

Subject: [j-say list] sound card and headphones

Hello,

I am new to the list. I am considdering buying the J-say. I have a IBM T60
with 2Gb of ram. Is the internal sound card good enough for the audio input?
Or do I need to by some USB external sound card, if yes what kind is
recomanded with the headphones?

Is the current version of J-say updated to run with Jaws 9.0 or do I have to
run Jaws 8 with its latest update?

Best regards
Arne Gilbakken
