I have no problem with that, and no problem about putting money into
your hands if necessary!

I've confused people, including myself at the start, in that there
were two concurrent problems which started at much the same time.
There was undoubtedly a BT line fault, as none of the computers (Iyo,
two Windows XP laptops and the son's Vista laptop) could connect the
internet for much of Saturday. On Sunday we discovered the BT
filled-in holes in the ground and trench, which I'm sure is the reason
for that one. The Iyo problem was a quite separate one.

Definitely intermittent, which makes diagnosis difficult. I just
wonder if its temperature-related; the end of last week was very hot
here, and the Iyo Panther's temperature gauge was reading up to 37C
for a lot of the time. Most of Saturday (hot) its networking was dead,
Sunday (cooler) networking came back to life and was working till I
tried to do my big backup over the network on two occasions, which
almost immediately took the networking down. Today (cooler, and the
Iyo's gauge showing the normal 30C) networking is reliable (crosses
fingers) and I've done my two big backups to separate locations, which
has given the network card a thorough thrashing, and all is still
well.

Now I have to decide whether this all shows that the power supply is
sickening, and whether I should order another one to keep in reserve.
Advice, please, including from those with or without commercial
interests! :-)

I'm grateful that there has turned out to be a local RISC OS Knight
in Shining Armour, who has offered to fit it for me if I do need to
change it. This is a considerable relief to me, as I really don't like
delving into the innards of computers.

TIA,

With best wishes,

Peter.
