You can see the draft auto-saving in GMail is a nice use of AJAX (yes
its asynchronous), but tell me, would implementing it be difficult? Not
at all.
auto saving draft in GMail is nice use. but it give me some jerk while
saving which makes me uncomfortable. implementing it may be easy. but
it should not affect end user's browsing experience.
Technology should be user friendly. and not because it is easy to
implement , it should be implemented
BTW I never said that anything that is easy to implement should be
implemented.
AJAX is used for enhancing (preferably an existing) user experience.
GMail's auto save draft is an excellent example, if you feel the web
page is jerking, thats a bug you should notify Google about it. Think
about implementing the same without the use of AJAX, you'll know that
using AJAX enhances the experience. Similarly, rating a post in Google
groups or Yahoo! Message Boards. If you disable JavaScript, the page
still works, but with JavaScript, you have an enhanced/easy experience.
