Hi,
I have BSNL Broadband connection at home. And I am not suceeded connecting
to the internet. I have my laptop (Mandrake linux 10.1) ( which is wi-fi
enabled too), I do not know why I cannot able to get suceeded in connecting
to internet.
I followed the following steps to configure my WA1003A *Huawei modem*.
1. I have connected my modem to my laptop with the ethernet cable, and
switched on the modem and my laptop.
2. And from my laptop, as a root user, I executed the following command,
2.a, /sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 up
2.b, /sbin/route add default gw 192.168.1.1
3.And if i do ping my to my modem 192.168.1.1 , it respond.
4. In the browser, I have viewed the modem index, http://192.168.1.1 and
login as admin, admin, and then in the PV0, I have configured with my
dataone login and password.
5. And do the ping test to modem ( it works fine ).
6. And then do the modem test, it fails. And ping to outside world not
responded.
Can any one clarify me what am i doing wrong. ? My intension is to
configure my modem in such a way to work wiith my linux in wi-fi.
Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Srikrishnan

Balaji,
I use BSNL broadband connetion.
I know that the ADSL setup is based on pppo, but the broadband
connection has wireless WAN connetion as well. for enabling the
wireless WAN, i think that my system's ethernet card has to be enabled.
My system has dual bootable(windows and linux), in Windows, the internet
connection is fine. and have viruse problems, but the same system, i
run the adsl-setup in linux and it is not in active for the net.
I am not clear, how the broadband works, I think that the wireless WAN
connection is based on the ethernet card.
I am not very sure about this. May be someone with a similar setup can
explain.

When you run this, your card is already configured. Can you then try
ping 192.168.1.1 <http://192.168.1.1> which as you said is your
gateway and see if it is
working?
Are you using an ADSL router? If yes, can you look into its config
it can be configured as a DHCP server?unsubscribe,
