[Ilugc] how to toggle between shell prompt and GUI desktop in Ubuntu?

Normally the toggle key is Ctrl+Alt+F1(F1 to F7 will work
by default. F7 is the GUI).
Sorry, I had to contact the forum only after making futile attempt with
Ctrl+Atl+F1........F7 keys.
Any other method in sight?????????????????
When you do a "ps -ef | grep getty", do you see anything like this??
