It will have complete calendering and tasks,notes integration very soon.
You can use it as Exchange replacement on the server by integrating it
with an MTA like postfix or so.
People can use MS Outlook on their desktops and the server can be
linux running OpenChange.
The only company to reverse engineer the MAPI protocol successfully is
Postpath which got acquired by Cisco for a whopping 215 million $.
But that is not open source.
Nobody else has done it so far. Though the entire MAPI standards are open.
Microsoft does encryption of its packets and also compression but then it
is all open now. No one can say that Microsoft is playing foul. It is our
job to sit and reverse engineer. I think it can be done. With proper focus
and effort.
Solutions like Zimbra and Scalix involve installing MAPI connectors on the
Outlook side. People don't like that solution.
It is not MAPI on the wire.
