The problem is definitely not what Microsoft created, it is something to do
with "business"
Patents inherently are not *bad*. In fact, they are /required/ in mechanical
related industries to protect and nurture innovation. However, Patents in the
software industry are bad because creating a patent for software is equivalent
to patenting ideas as opposed to objects/mechanisms (like the auto industry).
Copyright suffices as adequate protection for software.
Like myself when I was beginning to appreciate the ideals behind FOSS, a lot of
FOSS enthusiasts get carried away into thinking everything relating to FOSS
ought to extend and hold true beyond software. This, I know now is incorrect. I
suggest that people should read all sides of issues like patents, *understand*
these issues and then decide for themselves the stand that they want to take.
